to go in downtown do you go in just south of the navy peir , is there any locks ? I have never boated there and would like to see the city by boat . anything else to do ? Tim

Yes, there are locks. You have to wear vests in the lock. And no wake all through the Chicago River. Watch for ferrys...they will NOT get out of your way!

Not much exciting by boat, though you'd think. When you go thru that lock south of navy pier, you can go back north into a short canal. There might be a restaraunt there to eat at. Or simply idle along the river West then go North or south at the Y. No running until well south of the city. I hear there is a restaraunt to the north too. Havn't been down the river for some time now, because not much in there.
Can go see the different harbors, or cruise the Navy pier, watch the friday or sat night fireworks.
We stop in Diversey harbor at a slip. Then walk west on Diversey about 15/20 minutes to the Half Shell. Best crab you'll ever have probably. A basement, small, informal place, cash only, but great food.

I have never been there either and I'm contemplating making the trip from milwaukee. Based on weather, not sure if it's going to happen though. who knows maybe will see you there too.

I don't avoid it, but it's almost better to see the practice on Friday...same show, no clutter.
