Boat #2 - "banana split" resto
#1
Boat # 1 was my dad's original 24' raceboat "top banana". This is the restoration of boat #2 which was/is the first production boat version built in March 1976. It was originally powered with a 280 TRS sm block chevy.
This was an extensive resto to say the least! The whole thing took over a year - so far lol. We made a new deck (the smooth 2008 version), console, and engine hatch. Replaced all bulkheads and the gas tank.
Somewhere along the way the small block was upgraded by a previous owner to a big block (currently 425 hp) so the back of cockpit had to be cut out to accomate the larger engine and transmission required for the TRS. We also had to make a special cover for the back of the cockpit. (A big block and Bravo just fit with no modification needed fyi).
I had the sides of the hull painted (thanks to George Piparo), re-rigged it (me), new interior (thanks to Mike @ Fineline), had the TRS drive rebuilt etc - (special thanks to Bobby Saccenti and Randy at Cobra...)
$$$omeday I'd like to convert the TRS over to a 525/Bravo....
Below are some of the earliest pictures of this boat. The first "brochure". That's me below sitting on the dock and my dad standing.... circa 1976
