Default So I searched and researched I think I am ready?

I did a lot of searhing, talked to Dave (wow and thanks he gets my vote for member of the year).

If any of this sounds out of line let me know because I think I am ready to acquire some products and get to work.

I have 3 or 4 one inch in size gel coat gouges, and 3 spots that look like someone keyed the boat deep but still only 3-4 inches long.

I plan to smooth these out clean them up with some sand paper and dremel attachments. I then plan to use 3M Premium Marine filler to fill them in nice and sand smooth.

The last stage roughly will be to shoot over the area with some white paint.

Thoughts

I really do like the way 3M premium sands, good stuff. Good talking to you to btw, feel free to call as you work through the project if you need to.

Are you shooting the sides or spot painting?

It will be the easiest course of action when theres multiple repairs. If you need to get the color matched buff a one foot square area on the surface you will be painting and take the boat to a PPG suppler and have it shot with the Prophet optical color matching system, its a hand held computerized camera that will get a decent match.

So as I get closer to paint I have some more questions.

I am so confused on what can be used below the water line, and where the water line actually is. I am to new to this to know that exact definition of hard chine. I have been reading post all night long.

I assume the hard chine is where the boat goes from a vertical surface to the hull. This is real evident in the rear but seems to become part of the hull towards the bow.

I assume I can paint from the hard chine up even though some of it will be in the water regularly. What should I be using for paint? This will be white with minimal striping on the top and very little on the sides.

I want to spray some white matched to my boat to cover up some repairs (I am very happy with them thanks Glass Dave). Then add some minmal stripes to break up the all white boat.

correct, the hard chine is where the edge of the running surface meets the side of the boat (blue dash line) and it can go all the way to the tip or terminate somewhere lower on the nose. Typically boats are painted from the hard chine up and its ok to have paint on the small section of hull that will be underwater as long as the boat is not permanently left in the water.
