islander fuel gauge

hey guys i have a 2002 232 islander the fuel gage reads full till there is only 35 gallons left in the tank then it starts to go down does anybody know why or how to fix this it drives my girlfriend crazy she always thinks we are gonna run out of fuel

The shape of the fuel tank and the fuel level float are the reason behind this I believe.
