Sounds like the engine coupler sir. Its an internally splined shaft that is encased in rubber. It couples (connects) the engine flywheel to the outdrive shaft. Sorta acts as a buffer zone for the power. Heres a couple pics for ya. In the second pic....its #24. ( number 20 is for an alpha drive )
