Incident on Columbia - Looking for Boat/Owner
#1
Hi All,
Had this happen yesterday east of Portland, near Multnomah Falls:
Was out jetskiing with my wife (on separate machines), and had slowed to let her close up so we could talk and decide where to go. I saw a jetboat up ahead that was going slowly. I slowed to about 20 mph just as I passed the range marker to avoid passing them before my wife caught up. The jetboat slowed more, so I headed off to port to overtake at a safe distance. Then, out of nowhere, the jetboater throttled up, cut in front of me, and pulled his diverter at a range of maybe 50-75'. I cut hard right, and barely missed the main stream, but still got doused. He took off, and I waited for my wife. I then took off after them then to try and get their reg#, and whatever else ensued.
They had stopped a couple miles up. I closed on them, quite respectfully, and came along side. As soon as he saw me trying to read his registration number, he turned hard, and attempted to hit me again with the jet. Wise to his BS, I easily outmaneuvered. I Then stopped to try to get my cellphone out, but saw him make a big sweeping turn toward me at full power. He obviously wanted to come by and wash me off so I couldn't call for help. So, I put the phone away and sealed up the compartment so I could drive. I stayed on him while he tried to lose me for about 5 minutes, and finally got up far enough to read his #, which were on a severe flare so you pratically have to get your head down to the water to read them.
A sailboat anchored nearby saw the whole thing, and my wife went over to them and they had already called 911. I, got the reg number and made my own 911 call to report it.
I rode alongside the guy, and yelled at him to stop and confront me like a man, but he was just a sawed-off chicken S#$@ with no balls, and maybe drunk too.
So, the county sherriff is looking for this guy, and I have the contatcts at the Coast Guard, Portland Sector, that I work with looking too. I've informed my contacts at ABYC as well.
Boat is a 20-22' fiberglass jetboat, white nose, with purple, checkerboard aft. Registration # WN 8710 LC. Driver was male, caucasian, mid-30's, dark hair. Two women were aboard, one 30's and one probably late 40', early 50's.
He must have thought I was some punk kid that would roll over and take his crap. No, I'm and ex-Navy OOD, president of a marine consulting firm, and a respectful Cigarette owner, who just happens to enjoy responsible jet-skiing also.
I am going after this guy, and will use every avenue to find him, and make sure he is off the water permanently. Any help from any West Coast OSO members would be appreciated. If you see the boat at the ramp somewhere, or know where to find it, call me 360-204-4818, or call Multnomah County Sheriff, River Patrol 503-988-6788. Ask for SGT Gullberg.
Karma is a *****.
Thanks Guys

Update-
I just spoke with USCG, and they've got the owner's name and boat HIN. Stand by. Transferring case to WA Sheriff. He's been tagged in the Federal and Oregon databases.
P.S. I was more than willing to settle the matter man-to-man, but if you want to pull this and run like a chicken, then this is what you get.

My colleagues at the USCG ran the registration, and know who the owner is. They've flagged him in the federal database, so if he is ever pulled over, he will have something coming. Otherwise the Feds don't have much pull. The Oregon sheriff turned the case over to Washington to actually go question and investigate, and that is all I know right now. If you haven't noticed lately, the cops won't pursue anything. They won't come to traffic accidents, or even investigate homicides properly. Something about budget and cutbacks...
