Default Cockpit room, 38 vs 42

Why is the cockpit so much smaller in the 42 compared to the 38? Seems like you could only get 6 people in a 42 and it's not even a staggered.

the additional 4 feet is at the helm and passenger console, just the way Craig Barrie set it up.

Isn't there less room behind the bolsters and the back seat in the 42 compared to the 38?

yes, the cockpit is smaller on the 42 than the 38.
