Question loose steering at higher speeds

I just purchased a 95 Hallett 300 and love it. Was out running today and the steering I feel is loose. When running a speeds the steering wheel has a lot of play in it. It seems I have 4-5 inches of play. Seems like when running I am always moving the wheel and not changing directions. When having the drives trimmed up and the tabs where I want them I still have a good bit of play. Worn out parts?? It gets kind of harry when going fast. There is a lag back and forth and kinda gets me nervous. What to do?

I'm assuming Bravo drives? Do you have a tie bar between the drives? Can you wiggle the drives back and forth? How fast will the boat go? Anything over about 65 MPH and you really ought to consider full hydraulic steering - after bringing everything else back up to specs.
