Default 502 MAG with Vortech Supercharger

Hi guys, well I am a little new to the form and thought I would look for some help.

I currently have a 1999 502 MAG and Bravo I drive. I have a Vortech supercharger I want to install this winter. The motor has about 450 to 475 hours on it.

What should I do or what need to be done to the motor to keep it sound with the vortech. I intend on using the 5 pound boost pulley. I was going to replace the head gaskets at a minimum. What about the heads? Cam?

The boat also has a MEFI 1 ecm. I do have a complete MEFI 3 ecm and harness as I was told you needed in order to run the Vortech.

Does anyone have a combination they they have put together that performs well....

Thanks
Jake

I'm running a .030 over 454 Mag with the Vortech in my 24 Outlaw. Really happy with it so far, and I have an MEFI 4.. I'm turning a labbed Bravo 1 28p.. had it up to 78mph on gps with more left but dont have any ext steering yet so back it down as the waves started getting to me.. wont run it over 70 anymore until I get it set up correctly.. headers and steering are the winter project :-) Me personally, From the research I did before I bought mine (SC was already on it) I wouldn't put a SC on that motor without a rebuild, has too many hours on it..

Welcom to OSO. I am sure someone here can adress this a little better then me but I looked at this setup about a year ago. From what I cam up with I was going to use a crane 731 or 741. The heads also needed to be worked over. I think blown head gaskets are common for these type blowers so upgraded head gaskets were also on the list.

As for the heads, I think 1.7 roller rockers, new springs and exhaust valves were needed. I think you are correct, if I remember correctly you need a MEFI 3 because the MEFI 1 does not have a knock sensor (i think it is).

You can have your MEFI 1 harness repinned or just install a MEFI 3 harness. I also came up with a Thunderbolt ignition for this set up and Gil Manifolds with 4" dry pipes.

As for engine hours I hade more like 320 hours. I was going to stay with the "Stage One" kit so I didnt have to upgrade the fuel system although I think you need to add a fuel pressure regulator either way.

I am sure others on the form can comment a little better and with more details. I got all set up to do it and chickened out. Decided to stay stock and just have fun with what I had.

I think if you leave the motor stock and change the oil an a regular basis it should last for a long while with out any major problems. Good luck.

Installed one on my stock 502 mpi and it is a must to upgrade your fuel system if you dont it WILL NOT last. The mefi3 needs to be done and a 2bar map sensor needs to be installed. Mine has about 350 hours and its all stock and running 7psi. Had dynoed and has run flawlessly for along time now. KNock on wood.

You will need:

1.New fuel pickup tube its way to small.
2.New water fuel seperator factory one is to small.
3.New areomotive a1000 fuel pump to supply enough fuel.
4.New fuel filter after the pump.
5.If your fuel rail only has one fuel line going in then it will have to be sent out to machine shop and have and additional line added to other end and a fuel return line coming out.
6.New areomotive fuel pressure regulator with boost refference.
7.Will need to use -10an and -6an fittings and hoses throughout completed fuel system.
8.The fuel return needs to go back to the tank not the water fuel seperator.
9.Be sure to remove the antisyphon valve.
Hope this helps.

I was the one talking to you up at Hardy at the sandbar with the Powerquest. I really liked that setup, I'm going to keep my eyes open for one. Hopefully a good deal will show up soon, it would be a nice winter project.
