How many days are you planning on being on the river? Going up river is great a lot of places to camp out. Depending on how long you have id suggest staying at princeton beach or the sand pits in leclaire. Once you go north of clinton there are plenty of little islands and sand bars to stay on pick one you like and go for it. Same with the next pool up going towards dubuque its the same drill plent of islands and sand bars to stay at. You will see once you get on the river that there are a lot of places to get away on. Being a long time river boater before we moved to LOTO we found that we liked the Leclaire area a lot more then the other pools because the river is deep throughout the width of it so you dont have to stay just in the channel. Plus there are a few places to stop and eat on the river and most of them have decent docks that you can tie up and then go into the towns which have fun little shops and more places to eat one road off the river. Only problem with the Leclaire pool is that its got a large amount of chop on some parts of it and down south of leclaire there is a wall under the water that if your not careful you can reck your boat on.
