Owners manual says i can tow 7300 lbs. I have towed much more but very limited distance less than 60 miles. I talking about a 11 hour drive unloaded, 13 loaded...

Aluminum trailer, twin 350 mags


What is the dry weight of a 28zx? I guess the trailer is 1100 or so, its a magic tilt.

What say you?

I have a 2003 Donzi ZXO with T350's and an aluminum trailer as well, boat is 6500 DRY and the trailer (per magic tilt) is 880.No spare tire, no gear, no fuel @ 100 gal tank.
I bought this boat thinking my 2004 GMC 1500 Z71 four door would pull it.
I pulled it home and to the river two times before I thought I should get something else to pull with. On the flat land I did just fine. On the hills the truck worked too hard (in my own opinion) and I found myself riding the breaks on the way down because I could feel the boat pushing me a bit more than I was comfortable with. I know that there was no way I was going to pull this thing to LOTO in this truck.
So as much as I do not want to admit this I bought a Ford F150. After two trips this summer to LOTO (400 miles each way) It pulls much better than my GMC.

I pulled a Baja 29 OL with a Chrysler Aspen. Plenty of power and made sure I had goos trailer brakes.. Longest I ever did was 3.5 hours from Evansville, IN to Cincinnati. 13 would be a stressful pull.

The weight is correct, 6500 lb dry weight. with my aluminum tandem axle trailer, both my '07 (4 spd auto) and '11 (6 spd auto) Avalanches have had no problem towing this set up. I bought our 28ZX in Osage Beach, MO (LOTO) and drug it home (9 hrs worth) with no trailer brakes (not wise, but made it home) back to the Fort Wayne, IN area. I have since added electric brakes and I already had a brake controller in the trucks (I hate surge brakes and I do not go in salt, so no probs with electric). We primarily travel flat lands, but once a year we go down to Lake Cumberland in Kentucky for the Annual Donzi meet (13 hours roundtrip and some Kentucky hills). I'm a thumbs up on my 1500 bowties. Well I will be just at my tow limit, so slow and easy I will go. Hopefully this one will be as the pictures show. It's gonna be one long weekend either way. 25 hours drive in 48 hours...good thing I have a couple of spare drivers. Thanks for the info.

I tow mine with a Navigator (8500-ish capacity). It does ok but it is pretty bad in the rain.

If the trailer doesn't have brakes I wouldn't even attempt it. I'm thinking about changing my brakes over to Electric over Hydraulic. I have a triple axle trailer with 4 wheel Kodiak disks now.

I towed mine once with my father in law's avalanche. It did a bit better than the Navigator. With a 2500 HD diesel it's no problem.

And BTW, the trailer weight seems really low. Mine (aluminum) is about 1400 pounds with the 4 wheel disk brakes.

I may be able to get an hd for the weekend. I have an f250 with powerstroke but its one of my old fleet vehicles and has been put thru the ringer. If i was not crossing state lines, the f250 would be the truck but towing back a broken down truck from south fla to north al will cost some $$$.

I do have the upgraded tow package on my 2007 4x4 1500 extended cab chevy, but I am hoping the HD work out.

If you are at the tow limits then you should be fine. they underrate these trucks a bit so as long as the trailer brakes are working well and you arent going throught the rockies you should be perfectly fine. From experience birng as many spare tires as you can find. went from north bama to ft. walton (6 hrs one way) and had all four tires blow out on my buddies trailer be fore we made it back home.
