Key West Speed Week 2011 - P H O T O S

Tragic event in Key West yesterday has all of us in a somber mood. For me, the drive back from the bridge today seemed to take forever.
It was a gorgeous, sunny day here in Florida and I managed a few good shots of smiling people on beautiful boats.
How many boats do you count in this one?

There was a LOT of nice looking hardware. More than a few new (to me) Skaters.

There were a lot of em today. As many as I have shot at one time in a while.
Earlier this year I had a less-than-successfull adventure near this bridge I'm shooting from.
Yesterday I tried something a little different that did not involve a small aluminum boat. Interesting results.
More on the details later,
but basically I set a camera on 2sec interval timer and hung it from a 75ft line (3 lines, actually) over the side of the bridge.

Stu and the RainMaker crew had stopped to do some filming and idled under the bridge.

More cablecam and new updated photos can be found at the photoblog (link below)

Here's the rig- medium tripod w legs secured suspended by 3 nylon cords.
Note the little cardboard triangle that acted like a wing and kept the camera pointed into the wind.
That wind was blowing a bit harder today and I was trying to do video.
Good results, again. But a bit too random. Suspension system needs a little tweaking.
