.................................................. .................................................t he picture says it all allmost , its a Unlimited Hydroplane , made of wood , powered by a Allison Aircraft motor, 12 cylinder , these boats back in the 60`s were going 180- mph . there is a website for these old boats , i think google Vintage Hydroplanes, you will find info on all boats restored or being restored .

We used to watch those boats race in Mission Bay in San Diego, the called them thunder boats for a reason. You could hear them for miles. Having 5 or 6 of those running at one time was great to listen to.

I attended the Regatta in Madison back in '88. My one and only Hydroplane race. It was the beginning of the end of the thunderboats as although there were still some Allisons and Merlins running out there (Miss Madison, O'Boy Oberto, etc.) the turbines were taking over and dominating (Miss Budweiser, Miller, Jif, etc.) I loved when the piston boats went by!
