Mine has a spacer and it helps with stability at high speeds.

my old 280 had a 1" spacer, previous owner installed it and said he picked up a couple mph, I bought 16" tabs from insta-tab and reused my rams and pump, I think it helped with the chine walking

Thats what I was thinking about doing calling insta trim and getting there longer tabs, just wanted to make sure they made an improvement before spending the money

I want to do the same upgrades over the winter. So does everyone agree on a 1" spacer? Over a 1/2" or 1-1/2"? I can even blow out a P5X comming on plane and am dire need for a spacer. I went to a 16" long tab and when wide open and it starts to chine walk over 70, the tabs are too high on the V to even quiet it down. I think I am going with 24" tabs, possibly horozontal? Lets nail this down. I think everyones 280 has the same high X dim.

Great thread!
Im looking at the same upgrades on my 280. I was going to get the longer tabs from insta-trim and add a 1" drive spacer. What prop and horsepower are you guys running? I have a stock 502 with a 24 Bravo. I was also going to try some different props.
