Yep. Looks like turbos are the way of the furure. This can also be seen in the car industry, where more and more cars, not hi-perf cars mind you, are turbo charged. Why they did not choose the 1100s for this 44SL is anyones guess, but the buyer might have gotten a good deal on these last two. It'll be exciting to see the finished product. Did they mention where the boat is going or when it will be ready?

Mike Fiore didn't mention when the boat would be ready ... but I didn't ask. As for the choice of power, I suspect your theory on price is correct. But the new owner also could just like the sound of a supercharged engine. I hear that, pardon the pun, a lot.

True, very true. And I kinda feel the same way.

I'd think resale on the 1075's is going to be a nightmare. The upkeep cost is huge and the potential buyer will want the best at the price he will spend each year keeping a boat with that power in tip top shape. So the turbo engine will be the answer. The 1075 was only on the market for six years. I suspect that the new turbos will be even more prevelant then the 1075's are now. The 600, 700, or 850 customer I'd think would really contemplate the 1100 turbo on 89 octane with reliability.
Not sure when I'll buy my next boat, but having owned 1075's, the only engine I'd consider would be the merc turbo.

Superchargers arent going anywhere

Probably, though arguably, not, at least in the near future. But when I said the end of an era, what I meant was that the 1075SCi was Mercury Racing's first and only well-mannered, docile high-output pleasure boat engine, and the company will not use a supercharged platform for its highest-output engines again.

No doubt, I understood what you meant with that Matt.

But overall in the high-performance engine market, superchargers will be here for a long time.

I was hoping they would fade fast that way a guy might be able to buy a pair of them for a REASONABLE price . just saying
