27 Fountain on a Myco trailer with Dexter easy lube axles. I was backing it in the shop. Had it turned but not real hard and all of a sudden a loud noise and the wheel and tire and hub fell off. Upon further inspection the spindel nut is stripped the spindel has some damage also. Checked the net it looks like dexter has an updated spindle nut kit for these axles. Has anyone had the same or similar problems. A couple of weeks a go i towed it about 350 miles with no problems.
Thanks
Thanks

After further review. This spindle had a bearing failure in the past and someone put 3 of the d shaped washer on it to get to good threads. So the nut was barely on the spindel. I'm glad it did not happen on the highway. So now I have to replace that axle.

You can replace the spindle itself too. Youll have to take it to a repair facility that is setup with a welding jig, as it has to be 110% straight. But that maybe a cheaper alternative to a new axle.. Call around.

Waterboy I called one of the biggest trailer repair services in Cincy they said no to the spindel replacement because of the 4 inch drop and alignment problems. They will get me a new one. I have to take the old one in for measurement.

I have had my share of outer bearing/spindle nut failures recently. It's amazing that the failure of an outer bearing can allow the entire hub to leave the spindle.
Some of my boating buds and I have exchanged stories about this...It's scary how many stories I have heard of having a wheel assembly pass the tow vehicle while traveling at highway speeds.
I wish I knew of a better system.
