I have a pair of 98 300 Promax's for sale. Have not run in a few years, gearcases are good, from what i can remember approx 100 hours on them. Freshwater motors but located in Cape Coral FL( brought from Canada to be sold to a guy here but deal didn't end up happening). 10k for the pair.

They should have Fleetmaster (standard 3.o L/U) with 1.62 gears. Great lower units and perfect ratio for the torque these motors make. I'm an OMC guy but my Merc fan budddies say the EFI 3.0 is one of Mercs best and I agree w/what I've seen. The standard 300 Pro Max wasn't nearly as strong as the 300X's (seems like 280 compared to 310+ or so) but live way longer accordingly.
Eric Simon on the west coast also has everything to make these motors 320 hp+ monsters.
They also have a brain in thew computer that will read engine hrs @ rpm if you could get a tech their to check them out.
I know a guy over there that could probably do it for you if interested.
100 hrs is nothing if actual.
Makings of a good deal for someone.
