As some of you know, I have 540's with 9.2:1 CR, 900 cfm carbs, and Merlin intakes with Profiler heads and a Comp cam with .640 lift and 300 plus duration. The issue I have is terrible idle quality. I am going to sacrifice some high RPM power for a better low RPM behavior. I am considering putting a crane 169611 cam (the HP500 carb cam) at .576 and .598 lift and 284 /292 @ .004".
The original hp500's that came in the boat idled great and had pretty decent power. I do not run the 540's much past 5200 rpm anyway. What do yoy guys think.
Also- stock GenVI rollers. Reccomendations are not to exceed .570 lift. I am running them with my .640" cam with out a problem. Am I lucky, or would it be OK to run the HP500 cam with OE rollers.
