I am thinking about wet sanding the black hull sides on my 25 ZX. I don't have any fading, but I do have some scratches from dirty fenders before I had fender covers. Anyways, I have some experience with a good buffer from when i worked in a detail shop in high school, but not much with wet sanding. Wondering what paper to use considering the fact that I am not really doing it for fading gel coat, but more surface scratches. I am also wondering what sanding motion to use.ie circular or one direction?
I am hoping to smoth the surface as well as to get as much color to pop as possible which is why I am doing the whole black section instead of just spots.
Any help would be appreciated.

i had bought a 3m hook-it kit with finishing film sanding discs in 800, 2000, 3000 grit. goes on the end of a da. worked great on my black truck for taking swirl marks out of it. just make sure you keep it real wet. its also alot easier on the arms. not sure if they sell the kit anymore but you can buy the individual pieces if not.

Thay do still sell it. It is a great system, saves time, and when your done with it there is minimal buffing time. It is a little expencive tho. ""Cheeper"" A few sheets of 1200, 1500, or 2000 will work just fine by hand and then buff with 3M perfect it compound #1 and you can run over it with the #2 or #3 last to take out the swirl marks. Its a great system and we use it at my shop when we need to buff.
