It's been three months since the tragedies at Key West and Las Vegas. In those three months:

1. The IndyCar sanctioning body implemented an independent investigation into the accident that resulted in Dan Wheldon's death.
2. That investigation was completed in a timely manner and fully disclosed in a public forum.
3. IndyCar elected not to return to Las Vegas or other tracks that presented the same issues until all the safety ramifications were fully understood an dealt with.
4. IndyCar replaced its long-term Race Director in the interest of changing the way races are conducted.
5. Coincidentally, IndyCar teams were taking delivery of a new design of car, but additional work is being put into making that car safer.

In those same three months:

1. SBI announced that it was going to cooperate with a Coast Guard investigation into the three deaths at Key West.
2. SBI has released its 2012 schedule, due to start in two months.
3. Some racers have started Facebook posts expressing their concern over safety going in to the 2012 season.
4. ???

I would love to see offshore racing become a safe, well-recognized and well-run sport, but I'm hard-pressed to see how that is going to happen given this apparent lack of action.

If there are significant and effective changes underway, I think that it's time to start hearing about them out in the open.

Let's hear some good, substantiated, positive news from someone...

Anything other than nothing. If I'm wrong about this, and there are positive, productive actions underway, let's hear them.

A lawsuit is no reason not to make improvements.

I do however recommend the Offshore Racing bodies to take notes and/or procure consulting services from organizations such as Indy. Indy, Nascar etc. is big business, don't reinvent the wheel, learn from them. My $.02.

the wreck that killed killed both driver and co-driver (sorry I don't know their names) they were both trapped under the boat for more than three minutes and is the basis of the law suit???
I remember watching the video and being shocked at the time their boat was upside down w/no one responding??
I raced small boats for nine yrs and that was always my biggest fear.
Point being, if above is true then rescue procedure needs a serious overhaul.

It is great to hear Team Geico spending their own time and money to make the sport more safe. I hope every team takes advantage of their kind offer and takes away some great information that could potentially save lives.

are now strapped in your point is very valid. In the old days we wanted drivers thrown clear of the accident so they had no one to look to for safety guidance.
Now w/the drivers belted in we are similar to what the car guys have been doing for yrs.
