Default seastrainer mounting location?

Where is the best mounting location for a set of strainers, do they need to be lower than the seapump or water line, how should they be setup and plumed, going in a hustler32. They are mercury racing ones, fairly large and don't have brackets, so I will make some. Thanks

Mine is above teh water pump, but just barely. I would assume that above would be better so the pump would have some prime prior to cranking the engine as long as there was water in the strainer.

Mine are below the raw water pumps and water line. This keeps them full all the time, in theory.

Make sure that the lids are above the water line so you can remove them for cleanout. Also if the lid developes a leak you can fix it without sinking your boat.

Or just put shut off valves on them with a wash out hose and fitting.

MY advice..wherever and however you decide to mount them, make sure to use a shutoff valve on the inlet side. Great insurance if there is problem upstream and as stated earlier, controls water level for cleaning. MIne are mounted on the middle stringer. They are above the water line, but below the pumps.

See mine below.

+1. I bought stainless ones at McMaster-Carr.
