Arrow Anybody have info on D-TRONIC 7.3 merc diesels?

From what I gather they are navistar/power stroke, that has been branded cummins, were marine converted by mercruiser. Ones in ? are 1999 units. 7.3 300 hp. Just looking for some info on them. If they are anything like the power stroke then the should be bullet proof. Thanks for any info.

Thumbs up

Had them in my Mirage257. Had a very clean look in the engine bay.Ran pretty good up to 4200 rpm's. They were heavy, putting the swimstep almost under water, lol.Had them replaced with 6.2 MPI's .The engines were on loan from mercruiser to promote them.

The gassers look much busier here

I'm interested about this too. What kind of performance did you get with the diesel vs. 6.2?

Still have the same Bravo1X diesel drive with 1.65 ratio , turning the same Bravo 1 26P props, the 6.2 pushed the speed up to 76 GPS mph at 5100 rpm from 64 with the diesels at 4200 rpm. I think for one not worried about top speeds the D-tronic is a great package.
Rear without soot now! Waterline is at center of exhausts now compared to flooding the swimgrid with the diesels.

Those are not the V8 7.3 but the inlines, can't see if they are 5 or 6 cilinder.

I have seen so much engine fails on those inlines

They existed in 270hp IDI and then 300HP Direct injected.
Bullet proof? No way, We installed 2 of them in a scarab. When they ran they ran fine but lots of problems with boost hoses popping off & to much electronics. As soon as 1 minor thing would go wrong they went in limp.

Not a nice experience and the customer wasn't happy.
