Default Oil temp gauge

I'm redoing the dash and have planned on adding an oil temp gauge. I've read through the numerous threads on temp sender location and need some clarification. I don't have a place on the oil pan, but found three possible places to put the sender. In the first picture, there are two plugs on the block right above the remote oil filter adapter (one is painted black and the other is partially hidden by the oil line). Would either of these work and if so, which one? In the second picture you can see the plug on the remote oil filter - would that be ok? Of the three, which is the best? Appreciate the help!

You are correct, if you seach on this topic you will find its probably split 50/50 oil pan or remote oil filter. I have mine in the remote oil filters. I am looking for a flucuation. If it never runs past 220 and I see it going up 230-250 that would be my clue to start looking for a problem.

Put it the plug partially blocked by your oil line. Might need a bushing. You'll get better true readings of the temps in the engine

Check out that braided line you have, looks like it might have a hole starting.

Mounting it in the remote filter housing is ok.

Thanks for the heads-up on the line - hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it!

If I put the sender in the filter housing will that read oil temp before or after the cooler? Also, same question if I put it in the plug partially blocked by the oil line in the first picture. Thanks.

filter housing should be oil leaving the engine before the cooler, nearly oil pan temperature. the plug partially blocked by the hose is going back into the engine after the cooler.

Thanks for clarifying. I think I'll put it in the filter housing; I like the idea of reading closer to pan temp.
