New to me 1987 22 classic special edition #23
I just picked up a 22 classic in decent shape. There is a Tag that says special edition #23 of 25. Its a 1987 black and white 454 with a bravo. It is missing the tabs. Do you need them on this hull design?
Any info on this would help and the average value.
Thanks.

I think about 99% would agree that this hull needs tabs. Mainly to keep the boat from listing at lower and cruising speeds. Congrats on the boat. These boats respond well to power and are a blast in the 80s but get a lot of seat time first!!

My first go-fast that I owned was a 22 Classic with 550hp. It ran great, 80+mph and ran even better when I got the tabs installed. They are def. a drivers boat. The narrow beam makes it list easy under uneven load or even prop torque when cruising and at top end it want to chine walk. The tabs can correct the list during cruising and when you go for top end, run them even with the bottom to help minimize the chine.
Congrats they are really fun boats!

The only thing that I need to address is that someone has installed a huge Barry Grant electric fuel pump instead of the correct seawater mounted mechanical pump. It has a gen 5 mag motor in it now.
Has anyone ever installed a mpi set up on a 22 classic. I am wondering if it would clear the hatch. It may be the better way to go if I could get a later one with cool fuel.
Anyone have a spare complete mpi setup or a spare sea pump/fuel pump with brackets for v belts they want to get rid of??????
thanks

Congrats you have pictures?
Been looking for a 22 and I was not aware there was a special edition. What is different in the special edition from the other 22's built that year? Is that a more desired model to have?

I have heard the same that vette said that the x is higher like the Shelby editions... Owner said that with the warmed over 454 it did close to 80 gps... My 26zx w/502 is huge in size compared to this 22 with the similar power... I can't wait to get her won the water!
