I just installed 12 LEDS today for the cockpit of my cruiser, purchased thru Marinebeam.

Doing a lot of research on LEDS, one of the key factors to look for are bulbs that are stated to cover a range of voltage, such as 9-30v. These all will have a constant current feature. The plain 12v rated ones can possibly burn up with higher voltage, common with boats plugged into shore power with battery charger that ramps up to 14v or so for initial charge step. Seen a video on You Tube showing this, a standard rated 12v LED started smoking within a minute, then burned out. These LEDS will usually cost more though. My 12 LEDS were $165. Being plugged into shorepower full time, worth the piece of mind. For your non charger equipped boats or cars, usually not an issue.

US1 yes OPTX LED is rated 9 - 14 volts I also know a 30 volt rated LED only receiving 12 volts is starving the Diode so you will not get 100% lumens out of the LED. But you are correct about the LED that are 12 volt rated with no range.

I installed some 18" OPTX strips on the underside of my engine hatch. They were really easy to install, and work really well. Thank you, OPTX - I'll be installing a whole set in my other boat shortly!
