Default Removed my ST exhaust, need some fiberglass, paint, and exhaust help

Hello all the boat is a Formula 223SS with 7.4/330hp, and bravo one drive. I removed my silent thunder exhaust and swim platform. As I suspected it was pretty rotted and cracking up. Luckily there is very little damage to the transom. Moisture test was passed so no worries there.

I am going to glass all the through hull holes that are in the boat now to prevent any issues.

My first question is how do clean this up better. I've been using comet and scrubbing the hell out of it. It went from this...

To this...

Next question is how to fix this...

I was thinking of painting it and would like some assistance there too.

And I am thinking of flappers of the exhaust for now. And replacing them with tips in the future when I can afford it. Should I expect any problems there (except maybe the noise police)?

I want to do all this on my own if possible and will be adding a tubular platform this winter. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

And as a reward for some answers here is a nice video

ok, what through hulls are you glassing? you are leaving the exhausts alone, right? as far as getting the transom whiter, on and off hull cleaner. CLR. bleach. 600 sandpaper and rubbing compound. but you are probably repainting the transom anyway.

Try West Systems for the holes. They have a thickening additive you can add to the epoxy/hardener combo that makes the epoxy into a consistency like Bondo, except MUCH stronger. They are above the water line and small enough to not need fiber matting. I have filled many holes, and rebuilt several transoms using West Systems. Highly recommend it.

I had read about people glassing the inside of anything that goes through the transom so moisture doesn't get to the wood. So the bolt holes, exhaust, ect was what I was thinking.

As for the exhaust I was thinking of putting external flappers on until I buy some angle cut tips with flaps.

I would rather not repaint unless I have to so I will try getting it clean enough. Thats what I want to try first.

I will be looking into the west systems, thank you.
