Here is my dilemma. Newly rebuilt 454 engine MarkIV. Twin draw thru gale banks turbos. Nothing fancy about my oiling system 8 quart aluminum pan, factory windage tray, non thermostatic oil coolers. My question is which oil pump should I use. I have a Melling 10778C, but It was recommend to me to not use it because of the lower oil pressure at idle. My biggest concern is does it put out enough pressure/ volume to feed the turbos while idling. If anybody uses this pump can you tell me what your hot oil pressure is. It was actually recommended to me to use a standard volume pump with a high pressure spring.

I have never built an engine with a turbo, so I cant answer any questions related to that. However, I have used that same pump 10778C on several engines with no oil pressure issues at all. Hot, cold, at speed or idle. My engine is an NA 565. I run a good Hardin 18" cooler, all good lines, 12 quart pan, Mobil 1 15w50. Temps can be as high as 260* after a run, pressure never below 20-25 psi.

if you are sending oil circulating to the turbos you ABSOLUTELY should get a high volume pump (taller gears), Smitty

i have a gale banks twin turbo 454 also,use the high volume pump,mine has a 10 qt pan,but 8 qt is also ok with a high volume pump.also,you should have a seperate oil filter for the turbo,s.

The 10778C is the pump to use. Make sure you use the pressure spring that is already installed in the pump, throw the one in the box away! Don't forget to tack weld your pickup tube to the new pump.
