have a part that I need to make a mold of and then re-cast...

anyone on here do this as a business?

You will have to allow for the shrinkage of the original part when casting. So to take a cast part and use it as a mold will result in a smaller part being made off that cast part. If size is not an issue then it is not a problem but you will need to have a cope and drag made as well as the risers and gating.

Different metals shrink at different rates. Aluminum for example is 5/32" of an inch per foot.. Adds up when making a part.

Also you will have to address a core box if your shape has a cavity in it when cast.

Your local foundry or the foundry of choice will have pattern makers they work with.
