Default Water in B1 lower unit

I went to change the oil my the drives and as I pulled out the vent plug I had a few ounces of baby poo brown oil come out. I then pulled the drain plug and the oil ran clear (good) until almost all the oil was drained. As the last few ounces drained it did show some water in the oil.

I don't have any signs of oil leaks around the prop shaft. Where would water come from to get in the drive other then the prop shaft? Can water get in without having oil leak out too?

I normally change the oil before I put the boat up for winter, but this year didn't get it done. Since it sat for 5 months, could it be just normal moisture in the oil floating to to top?

How tough is it to replace prop shaft seals and any others that may need to be done?

BTW, Bravo 1 drives with 400 hours.

Thanks for any help.

That does not make much sense. The water should actually settle to the bottom of the drive. Water is heavier than the gear lube.
I would check your reservoir. It probably has some fo the brown sludge in it that happens over years with Merc Lube.

Yea, kinda what I thought Griff as far as the poo being on top. The reservoir oil looks fine. I went ahead and let the drives drain overnight and put in fresh oil. I'll watch um close to see if it happens again. Weird. Thanks

You can have a prop shaft seal leak with no visible signs of it leaking. I'd do a quick pressure test. Weird it was at the top.
