Default Amsoil Z-Rod 20W50

Anybody tried Amsoil Z-Rod 20W50? Seems like a great no brainier for marine. Has added ZDDP as well as rust and corrosion inhibitors for long-term storage. I talked to Amsoil on the phone and this is what they recommended for marine use.

I use it in my Wife's Mach 1, and I use the Dominator in my Chevelle. When I get the boat done I will use one or the other. Haven't gotten that far yet. = )

For a stock to moderate performance motor the Z-Rod is a very good oil. When you start pushing the limits, Dominator is the way to go.

Thats what I thought but this is what it says.:
In heavily modified engines (e.g. forced induction, nitrous) the maximum drain interval should not exceed 3,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

The initial reason I was considering it was the 3,4,5 week periods between use in this fine Florida salt air.

I can see temp difference in Dominator 15-50 myself. Before last tear-down, the 20/50 was used and it was nice too but did not stay as cool as long.

You can do long, hard runs on the Dominator (at lease I can). Should have Rage try that oil.

You & Rage will understand especially... I dont see as good of oil pressure with the 496 at idle with 15 anything. I like 20W50 but Dominator 20W50 doesnt exist. So, in my search I found this.

My other thought was to run 1 quart of Dominator 60 weight with 7 quarts of 15W50.

I use 8qts of dominator and 2 qts of 60 wt. pressure at idle is around 20+ I don't worry at all.

Even 18 or so is fine at idle. cold it's 65. over 200 degrees it's around 20.

if you're only putting 8qts total oil in a stock 496 pan with Ray's high volume pump you could cut it close sometimes on long runs. That engine calls for 9qts and my dipstick is not full after 9.

I use 10 as safety and it does not hurt anything.

It's all opinion on oil etc. I wouldn't worry too much. I don't know anything about the Zrod oil you asked about so see what you think.

I run the Dominator 10w30 in my 524 and I get 25lbs at 600 rpm warmed up. I just rebuilt the motor so it's still tight. My oil temp temp doesn't get over 195 either.

OK, if you are using 2 qts of 60 weight and the rest 15-50 thats what I will do. I thought it would work. I am glad you are the guinea pig.

8, 9, 10 - I cant remember with the new oil cooler. I go till it is at or slightly over the full mark after its hot and shut down.

Dont you have a low oil pressure beep go off at 18psi? I honestly have wondered how much is line pressure at the gauge and true oil pressure.
