Default p&d hulls....

hello all. i'm in the middle of a 24-7 pantera restoration and i know that the hull is a "p&d" hull.

i also know that p&d hulls were used for several other manufacturers boats (jaws, excaliber, martini)

did p&d lay up the hulls and then sell them to the boat builders to have the individual manufacturers decks installed or did p&d own the mold/plug and each builder layed up their own hulls from a p&d mold?

thanks, rob

Think p & d had the hot ticket back in the day & everybody coppied with their own renditions. Thats my understanding of it all.
Theres plenty of debate on who was first. Pd, pantera, super, etc....etc...

Its like the old chicken vs egg !!!!

I believe Magnum Marine was the first to build the 24' X 7' hull. They made very few. Here is one that raced in Europe. When I bought my 1974 24' Cheetah I was told then it was a Don Aronow design hull.

I know of two real Magnum 24's

Bill Shand Kydd's "Ultimatum" and Doc Magoon's "Andrea".

Perhaps more rip offs made of the 24 than the 27/28.

Both Harry Schoell designs.

Where's Brownie???????

The only thing that P&D originated was copying Harry's designs. Hallj got it right on the nose.

ok guys, i guess i'm asking if each and every 24-7 came from a common mold or was each builder basically mimicking the original 24-7 design and producing their own molds/plugs to lay up the hull "in house"?

in other words, did pantera make a mold of a 24-7 and then lay the glass or did each of these builders buy the hulls from p&d and then "deck" them to suit?

thanks, rob
