I spent 4 days on lake powell & had an awsome time!!! Untill, i went to pull out of my camping spot on my last day & the boat wouldnt turn right!!!! Almost got into the rocks. I pulled the cover off in the mid cabin, pulled the cover off the steering column & everything looks ok. The steering wheel turns but its not grabbing the cable. i drove bout 8 miles with the girlfriend turning me to the right on comand(shes good!!!!)with pliers on the cable. Is the column junk or is there something else wrong? Was thinking of replacing the column & cable but wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar issue. Kind of scarry when you cant control your boat!!!!

I think you answered your own question
"The steering wheel turns but its not grabbing the cable."
You just need to answer the question "why isn't the steering wheel grabbing the cable?"
Solve that, fix that problem & you should have steering again.
I would say the cable appears ok if the GF can turn the boat with just pliers, unless the retaining head is gone.
Good luck.

there is a big gear in base of column.a couple of teeth have broken off. sometmes you can disconnect cable and turn around a couple of times so that broken spot is on far side from cable and will allow full steering.

Thanks for the info. Took it apart & looked at the gear, don't look too bad but is worn down some. Talked with Scott at Advantage & he thinks he's got the parts to repair it. He acted surprised like it has never happened but was willing to help out. I was wondering if it's just part of having a 8 year old boat or if maybe the brazil valve would cause extra strain on the column. I would think the power steering would keep the stress off the column. Just sayin. I will see after I replace some parts in the column.
