for those interested, heres the response from one of the DS staff members
"My staff and I got it together with extremely high winds on the west side of the course that were blowing boats and buoys off their anchors. Had to re anchor both start and radar boats when the waves were climbing in the boats.
Once started, the wind calmed down and we were starting to rock when the boat engine blew and caused a small fire. The CG took it under control, but could not removed it from the course and Vessal Assist had to be called. That cleared the course but then the CG boat took forerver to get back on station and allow use to contine.
We didn't call it due to wind, we called it due to lack of addtional boats to run the eventl So many of the fast boys broke this week, that we ran all our boats thru in the morning. I spoke to several and they had plans to run in the afternoon, but decided not to, so we finshed the shootout early due to no more boats to run."

Man,
That must really suck for all the Big dogs, to get there and have engine problems and not be able to run the shootout. Better luck next year.

Kudos to Desert Storm, as it sounds like it was a first class event. It is definitely one of those "bucket list" events..
