Default 01 Ford F-250 xlt diesel with plow-what is it worth?

Have a customer that dragged in a 2001 F-250 XLT long box/std cab with 7.3 powerstroke with 150,000 miles. Transmission case is cracked and we are swapping trans case. He is selling it as soon as its fixed and has offered to firesale it to us broken. Truck has western Uni-mount snow plow, 315 tires almost new, box looks good BUT is rough when you look hard (rust under wheel moldings and strap pulling sides together at tailgate) overall body has almost no dents /dings, has rust starting on cab corners and bottom inch of tailgate. I wouldn't call truck clean by any means but its not beat to death either. Between buying it and repairing it we would have 5500$ out of pocket incl paying ourselves our own labor. Bad time of year to sell plow trucks obviously, standard cab limits the market of who would want it, what would a educated guess be on what truck could sell for IF we buy it?? If I thought I could turn it and make 1000$ I would do it but I wouldn't want to tie up my working capital to make a few hundred, Smitty

I'd pass for a thousand bucks.
What happens if the rear end or transfer case buys the farm next week? 150K miles and it looks that rough? ...Another breakdown waiting to happen.

The real question though is what is market value on a running f-250 xlt diesel with new tires, uni-mount plow and shaky box?

An 01 7.3L engine is worth about $1,000 on any of the powerstroke forums and the plow is worth another $1500.00 if wiring and mount is still in good shape. Might be best to pass on this one unless you can get it bought cheap, really cheap.

Truck doesn't need parting out, its a XLT with new tires, I am putting the trans back in it today, the only thing wrong with truck is box is deteriorating, like most fords from around here of this era and the deal killer-standard cab. The frames straight, steerings tight, front end bearings are tight, interior will clean up, I found a couple on repo-cast in past auctions that brought mid 7k with plow, more mileage and same shape. I am contemplating buying this from my customer and turning it to make a few bucks, i have a 08 duramax srw crew cab in mint condition that is MY truck so its not like I would keep it, Smitty

That thing is only worth 6-7 k. So do the math. The reason the trans case is broke because plowing puts a strain on the drivtrain. Transfer case is prob. shot to, or close.

See, THATS the question, I can get this truck for 5500$ and that includes paying myself and my help for fixing it, if I could turn it for 7k I would cash this guy out and do it, if we are talking 6k its not worth the bs, Smitty
