Dreaded Ford V10 manifolds

2000 F350 100K. Ticking noise on acceleration. Studs broken on both sides. $500 on the low. $1000 on the high once Pandora's box is opened. Great start to the boating season!

the easiest way to get them out is to blow the heads off the bolts and slide the manifolds off,spray pb blaster on them,come back every hour and spray them again and leave them sit over night..
use a stud extractor to remove whats left of the bolt,,you may have to apply heat to remove them.
the dealer gets from 1 to 3 k to do the job..
call arp and get the correct bolts but in stainless..

All the reading I did on it I decided to have a trusted local mechanic do the work. Started yesterday. I'll report back costs and exactly how bad it ends up being.

Should the bolts be changed before they break or just wait for them to break then deal with it. I have a 2000 V10 with 45000 on it rarely driVen in the snow.

if you really want to save them get some 1/'8'' rubber and some short ss screws and make a flap that will cover the inner fender to the upper control arms,ford quit doing this and now the manifolds get all the road chit and they rust away..
