Default Merc 525's engine oil recommendations

Im running the merc 25w-40 as recomended by mercury, $49.00 for 4 liters at the local marine store (Canada...go figure) (thats 1.05 gallons) when you need it you need it. Just tired of paying that, any suggestions on alternates of good quality ?

I used Valvoline 20w50 VR1 for my boat with twin 525's and never had any issues at all. The boat had 225 hours onit when I sold it.

I use Mobil 1 Vtwin, but I'm going to assume that it's gonna cost about the same.

We have a renegade 20w50 racing oil. Highest zinc content on the market at 3000ppm. Cost is considerably less. www.renegadpro1.com

Why do you want to run such a high zinc content?

I use NEO P40 with 1900 ppm zinc it costs 27.00 a gallon what is the cost of the Renegade oil?

Engine builders have desired high zinc context for years. We built an oil that the engine builders liked and ran it in our own race cars for 3 years before releasing it to the market. Our 20w50 is not a repackaged 20w50 that they slap a different label on. We custom blend it from ur own base stocks and additives. I will never say someone else product isn't good but I have been extremely impressed with the tear downs we have done over the past 5 years and the performance on the Dyno.

Retail on the 20w50 is right around $6.25/quart. We can ship full cases out of our Kentucky facility or we can set you up with a distributor. We have distributors in 30 states.

Higher zinc content prolongs wear by causing a chemical reaction with the metal that creates a shield. Synthetics normally have higher zinc contents than regular. There were issues with emissions and catalytic converters on newer vehicles is why it has backed down. Race engines and non catalytic converter vehicles can run it fine.
