I have a SEI Bravo replacement lower unit on my Velocity. It has been a great drive for the past two seasons and I have not had an issue with it. I decided to completly strip it and repaint while doing the upper and transom assembly. Well much to my surprise, it appears there was a flaw in the casting process and there is a small pin hole... I didn't even realize it was there until I began to prime it.. I notice a small spot that wasn't drying.... I sanded it back down and notice the small pin hole that was leaking drive oil.... I am guessing the OEM epoxy paint selaed the hole before the drive fluid was ever added.... I am 2 years into the 3 year no questions asked warranty of the SEI drive. I am going to call them and email a pic. I really hope they don't give me any crap. It would be pretty difficult to say I caused the pin hole by sanding the factory paint off.... Here is a pic of the hole..... Always something...

I am wondering if I shouldn't just lay the lower on its side, clean the pin hole out and just epoxy it... It would be less of a pain.....
If you look closely in the pic you will see a blue spot, this is "metal glaze" a body filler that I applied over a low spot. That low spot was an epoxied fix from the factory...... I am guessing it was a similar flaw. So I am guessing, if I send this in for warranty they will probably just patch it with epoxy. So why bother paying freight both ways, and wait 1-2 weeks when I can do the same thing for about $8.00 for the epoxy and $30 in new drive oil........
The SEI lower is solid and for the money, a great buy (for stock power applications). But it appears part of the money savings is due to the substandard casting process..... If you look at the close up picture you can see numerous pin holes (only the one is leaking). If I fix myself, I will fill the non-leaking pin holes as well.....
At first I was all worked up and worried, but now that I have had time to relax a bit, I have realized this isn't too bad of a repair. Hell, it should be much easier than all of the sanding and prep work I have done to the gimbal and transom assembly.........
