Wow...thats tough, how did it happen? Was there a mechanical problem (hydraulic steering let go?) or was it conditions, spin-out, etc? Broken pelvis...ugh...sounds like you're out of commission for a while

Rick,

Sorry to hear about your incident, I'm glad your okay, if you can call a broken pelvis ok. What caused you to get thrown?, best wishes from all of us at Sunsation for your speedy recovery.

Sincerely,

Wow,
Did you have any passengers or were you solo? At 60MPH you musta hit a killer wake unexpectedly or steering broke. I would like to hear your comments. Unless it was some very nasty conditions that boat should be rock solid at 60.
I hope you recover quick.

Thanks all for the support !!! Really dont think anything happend to the boat, but Jim Wilkes will go through all systems next week while doing routine maintainence ....

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM RICK:

1) Purchase & Wear " The LifeLine Jackets" if you plan on goin over 45 on any given day... They make one just for SUNSATION and there is no better mfr for life vests...... talk to Dave at the factory and get one !!!!!!!!

2) WEAR YOUR LANYARDS / Kill Switch Tethers ....

Thats it ! ........those two points will save you years of physical greif and finnacial pain....and perhaps even your LIFE !

As to what happend.....

I was cruising in the Long Beach Break Water on the way to lunch ; NO ALCOHOL.... The break water is a some what protected from the Sea area in So Cal... There' big jettys to push away the Pacific's energy and swell.... The winds were gusty 25mph +, 2-3 Ft wind waves & many other boat wakes ... It was like a soup bowl.....

I was heading into the wind and all the sudden started chinning .... From my past experience ( 150 hrs. on this boat), the boat would just get through it .... Those that witnessed, say the nose caught a rogue wave and .... next thing I new I was in the water ..... boat came to a peaceful stop 200 yards away as I took the lanyards with me over board.....I ended up with Broken pelvis ( ouch ) and the passenger ended up with a broken knee & two craked disks in her back...recovery will be six to eight weeks out...That's what's I know.....

Rick32

PS... Summer is really comming around out here and I plan on doing some harbor cruising to nice tunes with crakers , cheese and sunshine .... to aid in recovery of course.......

Wow! thanks for sharing that. You know I've only worn the lanyards (and yes folks I have worn them before) while pushing hard across the muck, but as you've shown with the right conditions/speed/trim/wind-lift/etc., which may seem mundane at the time, "A" (as in any) boat can potentially launch in a nasty way. I think those things (lanyards) are like the seat-belts used to be when the "you gotta wear'em" law changed. At first you rejected them and after becoming more aware and comfortable with the routine of wearing them, you now (at least I do) almost feel naked "not" wearing them. Perhaps this is a wake up call for us all...

Best of luck in yours & the lady's recovery. Kick back and enjoy the cheese and the breeze....

Rick
