After reading the thread on soot accumilation on the transom, which I DO get, I want to get my carbs looked at and gone thru........ I just got the boat in Sept. and don't have much history on maintenance of the boat. I'm thinking of sending the carbs to Nickersons Performance in Bristol Pa. Any feedback would be appreciated...... Have a 540, Wieand 256, 6 lbs boost. The spec sheet they sent to fill out about the motor is quite extensive,.... Good Idea?

I just have 454 425 hp motors. I sent one out last year had them redo one. When they were done that motor started on the first crank and idles perfectly and shifts perfectly too. The other engine would not run so I never got to try it out but I sent my other one out just got it back about a monthn ago, cant wait to actually run a running boat.

My experience was very disappointing! I lost two things that I needed for boating, with them... Money and Horsepower! They're claim to fame is...We are extremely proud of the fact that 95% of our carburetors still have the same jetting which they were shipped with. Well, They sent mine back with 100 squared and they ended up needing 92 squared. I could go on, But this should be enough to save you some troubles. Lenn

I ran and purchased a lot of product from Nickerson a few years back including a cam package and they know their stuff. I think if you have a problem with them they would make it right. Easy to talk to on the phone.

I have two comments: First motor with the 900.00 Nickerson tune. 515 ci,250 blower went lean and burned # 5 and 7 piston after 15 hours of run time. Call and told him what happened. Sent the 1050 Holley back and changed it back to the next engine I was going to have built. Second motor 454 gen 6 block with 496 kit, motor went on dyno, and acted like it was efi, very happy with the results and it been that way for 2.5 yrs. I do get some soot on the transom when the water is cold but overall happy. Would I do it again....... No If I was going to do it again the only way I would run a blower is have duel carbs..

For the amount of money you would spend sending and praying they got it right. Seeing youre in MI you could take it to tyler crocket and have him tune it on the dyno to make sure everything is compatable. just me but I would feel safer tuning the whole unit, not just throwing money at the carbs.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll check all the simple things that where mentioned.... Then see if the soot is any better. The soot was pretty bad with premium from the gas station, then tried 89 non ethenol with a mix of 104 race gas and and it was better.... Not sure I want to do that for the summer though.... On a white hull any amount shows up......
