Default Removing "Soot" From Paint ?

I've never done anything beyond hand waxing my boat, so I'm a rookie at buffing, etc. It has been in rack storage for 3 years, and the exhaust from the lifts has put a black soot into the paint particularly on the deck. Like gray footprints in it I can not get out with soap.

What would be the best product and process to get this out and restore the shine? I would prefer something I can get locally at O Reilly's or West Marine if it's boat specific.

Would an orbital be the best bet then? I'm thinking I'll need some type of polish, then a good wax. I have been using a synthetic like Ice because it is easy, but if I buy an orbital I could go with something more work intensive.

Appreciate any advice.

Just use the purple stuff that Home Depot or Lowes sells in 1 gal jugs. Soot doesnt stand a chance with that stuff. Sounds like youll need more spit and polish afterward though too!

Hahaha, thanks man. I don't wanna be your local project guy calling to ask about everything.

Sounds like the purple stuff will get it off. Then I'll assess if I need to buff out oxidation or not. Sides are great, but the top is so sooted up I don't know if it shines right or not.
