Seneca Lake (New York) Battleship Run – July 21, 2012
#1
The Rochester Offshore Powerboat Association is running their 22st annual Battleship Run on beautiful Seneca Lake in upstate New York on Saturday July 21, 2012. The actual run is on Saturday, but most folks like to come up Friday night and stay the whole weekend. The fact that this is the 22nd running of the event should say something about the club that runs it and the combination of the people and the location pretty much assure a good time for all.
For those of you that have never been to upstate New York, Seneca Lake is one of the famous “Finger Lakes” that were carved out by a glacier well before Reggie Fountain allegedly invented stepped hulls. The lake is almost 35 miles long and a bit over 3 miles wide. As for depth, let’s just say that if you drop something overboard more than 50 feet from shore, you’ll need James Cameron to retrieve it. Oh, and the water is crystal clear too!
The club takes full advantage of the beautiful lake and we generally run three fleets with pace speeds of 55, 65 and 100+ MPH. For those of you that really like some open water to test your new video cameras, this is the place to do it. For those of you that like a more leisurely pace, we have a fleet for you too. The club is very proud of its safety record though, so be prepared to wear PFD’s while on plane, don’t pass your pace boat and please, save your drinking for after the run.
The run is headquartered at the Showboat Hotel and lodging is available there and at the Rainbow Cove Hotel just a short walk up the road. If history repeats itself, you might want to make your reservations early because both hotels fill up quick. Once you see the location, you’ll know why.
There are several very nice launch ramps within a couple of miles of the hotels and we even have a place where you can safely store your trailers nearby.
Applications are now on the ROPA website at www.rochesteroffshore.com.

Let me just say this about that . . .
Regarding the elusive 100MPH - I'll believe it when I believe it, or something like that. Not an easy target. Should be in the upper nineties though.
Now, about the event, the 22st????? Is that twenty twooost? Just so you know, many people would say twenty second or "22nd".
I am sending in my registration tomorrow. See you there.

I would love to run this lake, but I have a tool show in Orlando the following weekend and I can't take off two Fridays in a row, or be away two weekends in a row. If I do it will take me forever to catch up. I looked on the club site there are two more runs later in the year. Are these also on the lake?

The other organized run the club does (Eagle Creek) is on Lake Ontario.

Tim, there is the Pirates Run on June 23rd on Seneca Lake thats hosted by another club, SPBA. It is a great lake to run, hills all around in wine country, nice towns as well. I've run the lake with ROPA a couple of times...worth the trip up.
