Got in a argument tonight with a friend trying to convince me to take the boat out this weekend, if all goes well I'll be back midday Saturday, dmv's closed, have to wait until Tues, buddy told me to use it keep bill of sale with me, and its still legally registered anyway, he did this when he bought his for 3 weeks, I say illegal and bad idea, anyone ever do it? get pulled over? what happen?

Registration or not, insurance would be my number one priority. No question.
I was in a similar situation years ago. I called NYS police and CG...they both said in so many words they were not in the business of giving well behaved boaters a hard time and to carry what documentation I had. (I decided to bag the trip until the following week anyway. In the grand scheme of things, I figured what harm will really come by waiting.)

Keep in mind that laws vary from state to state.
In my state that would be perfectly legal to do for 30 days from time of purchase as long as I had proof of insurance too. I've done it dozens of times with zero issue or concern.
I say get insurance and go enjoy the boat.
I used my current boat for three weekends before I tagged it. I was well within the letter of the law doing it too.
