Default Sea Strainer interconnect?

So, I am going to swap out my old Gil sea strainers with the 8 wing nuts for new Hardin ones. The Hardin ones have dual inlets and outlets. An idea popped into my head. Since I have twins, should I interconnect them? That way if a drive inlet grabs a plastic bag or the like, which did happen to me once, the engines would share water instead of blowing up a dry pump. Thoughts? If I should interconnect, do I do so on the inlets or outputs?
