Default 502 Carb Upgrades?

Looking for a little help.

I've got a '93 502 carb in a 24' Obsession v-hull. Over the past 2 seasons I've noticed a significant drop off in power and speed. I had the carb rebuilt a few years ago and the motor ran pretty well for a year or so. It has since fallen back into what I feel is a poor idle and backfires when I go full throttle from idle. I'm having to ease up on plane, just can't give it out of the gate. Also have noticed a drop off in fuel economy.

I'm in the process of replacing the carb and installing a new ignition system. It got me wondering what else would be worth the money to do to the motor.

Currently running a Solas 24x14 only pushing 4200 rpm. Had been running a 23 pitch Mirage and pushing 4600. Both are resulting in virtually the same top end of 59 mph on my Livorsi GPS.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Which cam do you have? What kind of carb? Holley, Quadrajet?

The 502 responds o a cam and carb upgrade really well.

The motor is all stock at the moment with the exception of CMI headers. A new Quick Fuel 800 cfm marine carb is the plan. Wondering if I should do valves or anything else while I'm at it. Motor has 400+ hours

What cam would you go with?
