a friend has an early 260 Dancer with drive issues. prop no turnee. i dunno anything about the Outboard Messa Crap drives. he wishes the boat was trashed, so he could give up on it, but it is just too nice. except for the dead part. thanks. derek.

Just two weeks late. I just sold my last one from a fresh water application. I do know about these (hate to admit it) so if I can be of help let me know.

Try http://www.sterndrive.cc/

They sell a conversion kit for $350 that allows you to bolt on an Alpha Gen II.

the old stringer drives are electric shift, could be a simple loose connection,,check power going to the drive housing,,if no power or even ground they wont shift..if you have power and ground the he may have broke one of the coils in the lower unit which is more simple then a alpha to change..

the stringer is before cobra, the sei conversion kit is for the cobra drives. i have seen precut aluminum plates that fit alpha/bravo in that big hole, just pricey. parts are getting hard to find and $.
