Default Lost a Prop

While running this past saturday I lost a Prop. Cruising along about 50-60 Mph...... suddenly RPM shot up while feeling the boat slow to one side. First thought was a lost a drive from hitting something. To my suprise shaft, upper and lower were all still there in perfect condition. Pushing 640 HP on a 32p four blade with metal inserts. Any ideas besides the nut cracking and working its way off why I would have lost the prop????? I helped put the props on and they were def. on there tight.

wierd, cuz the prop is pushing forward HARD while driving. shouldn't have left until you backed off the throttle. sucks. doesn't sound like a 200 buck ebay prop...

I read somewhere on this forum that it is recommended to replace the prop shaft nut each time you remove the prop. In all the years I've been boating (since 69) I've never done this. I might consider locktite or a season replacement now. What an expense losing a prop. Sorry to hear that.
