I replied in the Powerquest section also. I think there is a noticable difference in ride. I'm assuming the length on the powerquest includes the molded in swim platform. If so, the length difference is close to 3 feet. That plus the added weight and most 29's have K-planes make for a good ride. I have several friends with 25 Outlaws with single 496 HO's, I usually burn 30 - 50% more fuel than them on a long run. My 29 with 496 mags cruises 45 mph at around 3300 rpm and 50 at about 3700.

I had a '99 29 with 7.4s/310. I'd cruise in the high 40s at 37-3800. Top out around 62-63. Never had a complaint about fuel consumption. Now on my 342, that's another story

If you're looking at 29s, don't rule out the 302. I've owned both. The ride is pretty much identical with more cockpit room in the 302. Both times for me it came down to the most bang for the buck.

Both are deep V boats...is your current 280 a step boat or conventional V? My buddy had an older 290 Power Quest and I think my 29 rides better. Speeds will vary obviously depending on power and set up. My 29 is quietly for sale (not advertised, word of mouth) depending on your price range. Good luck in your search!!
