Default cutting crossmember in a Baja 272 (2000)

I'm going to throw this out to all the fiberglass guys. take a look at my post from yesteray in "General Q&A" .
I think I need to notch the crossmember inbetween the gas tank and engine in order to fit a procharger pulley, (or whipple pulley for that matter I am lacking about 1.5 to 2" depth in from of the crank pulley to that crossmember in order to fit the longer crossmember and the new belt routing going across and over to the supercharger. So long story short will I be taking out a larger amount of strength in the member by notching it about 4" down 12" across and about 1.5 into the member itself. This will leave a thin web in that area, maybe 1/2" wide. That member crosses ove the stringers and where I'm cutting doesn't get anywhere close to the top of those stringer, actually there would still be 4 to 6" above the one stringer it would even come close to. I do plan on glassing any cut area back over so it won't rot. I boat on Indiana lake and don't see any huge waves so I don't beat the hull. Am I nuts for planning to notch that crossmember or is it a reasonable amoutn that won't effect the strength considering the lake boating I do. And lets face it, Bajas are not ocean racers anyway just a good all round entry level performance boat, I just want mine to go faster

well it's cut out now so now all I need is advice on the fiberglass to seal over the top section of where I had to trim. So what is the decent fiberglass to use to cover that to keep the water out, I'm guessing the thick stringy messing fiberglass matting not the tight woven kind. Also any special resin for marine use. Should not see much water unless rear end of boat fills up with water then I'm screwed anyway.
Fresh water lake boating , will not see any seawater with this owner at least.
