Default Thoughts on UPS shipping costs..Aluminum Exhaust

I am considering buying a pair of Dennis Moore's GLM Aluminum Exhaust Manifold Kits for my re-power. For each engine he is asking $650 for the complete aluminum kit A~Z.

http://www.mooreperformance.info/Mer...rSBmanifoldkit.

Aluminum Exhaust A~Z for both engines will run me $1300 plus shipping. He advertises a "discount rate" for UPS shipping but I don't know what that is yet. I called and left message...does anyone have experience dealing with him and have knowledge of what it cost to send this from 91722 to 33411 ?

I can buy the same two kits in Miami from a distributor for $1498 tax included..."cash and carry". I'm thinking I stay local SE Florida with this purchase unless the coast to coast UPS is less than $100.

I have spoken with locals that have used these aluminum manifolds with great results. The weight savings for both engines aluminum vs. cast iron is 200 lbs!! That kind of savings plus the 50 lbs. I save with aluminum intakes is a HUGE number...especially being in the a$$ end of the boat.

Any thoughts?

OK..so at $100 ea I am even dollars. It's a no brainer to me to buy local. I guess I can replace the plastic with some stainless pieces from a supply house I deal with.

Thanks Mike.

even if less than 100, it wouldn't be less than 50 anyway. and 100 out of 1500 total isn't enough for the diff of seeing the face and the place your parts came from...

My take is a lot of dealers mark up shipping. I shipped my upper dravo drive in a big box 70lbs for 56 bucks. $100 is a little steep on it if you ask me. I would think 100 for both sets would be far but maybe a little high.

another thought. get 4 alum manifolds for 170 each and shop for used stainless risers. are you running closed cooling? or raw water?

For roughly $100.00 I would buy local. When UPS messes one up in delivery, it will save you $100.00 in headaches. The dealer will probably price match or at least meet you half way if it is only $100.00 Jeff Wurl
