Default 5.0 shuts off

Just returned from a trip to raystown lake for a few days. i have a 03 20 outlaw with the 5.0 and on Sunday the boat gave me a 2 beep alarm everyonce in awhile with no signs from the gauges or sounds of the engine that something was wrong. Tuesday i took the boat out with a filled tank of fuel and did not have any alarm or problems with the boat. Wed after a few hours on the water i started recieving the 2 beep alarm again. Once again i checked over everything and couldnt find a problem. after awhile as i cruised at about half throttle the boat dropped rpms then revd back up and dropped again and cut off. It did this a few times so i thought maybe a connection problem somewhere. Finally before it was time to come in i took one last cruise and as soon as the boats gets up on plan it just dies and shuts right off. Everything to my knowledge looks good, any suggestions on things to check for. Fuel problem? Any advise would help... Thanks! also it does seem that this problem happen when in rough water.

Matt

I don't know exactly what beep means what, but I'm pretty sure it beeps if your drive oil is low. What was your water temp at?

I had this problem in my 04 202 last year. It end up being a bad air idle regulator. The merc mechanic said they have been replacing them after about 5 years. It's actually a sensor next to the flame arrestor. It can be disconnected from the computer temporarily if your boat gets to the point where it won't turn over. Labor cost more than the part.

First of all, Im jealous that can get so much boating in during the week! I havent been out once this month but thats mostly due to what a cold, wet June this has been.

The map sensor is something else worth replacing BUT I have to say a quick visit to any boat shop will answer your question. The computer will keep track of all error codes which will make the repair easy to diagnose. Throwing parts at a car or boat is usually a huge waste of time and money. Good luck!
